A higher number, such as stage IV, means a more advanced cancer. And within a stage, an earlier letter means a lower stage. Staging of cervical cancer can either be based on the TNM or FIGO system. Cervix cancer staging

In Australia, cervical cancer is usually staged using the International Federation of Gynecology and Obstetrics (FIGO) staging system. Cervical cancer is the 12th-most common cancer in women in the UK (around 3,100 women were diagnosed with the disease in 2011), and accounts for 1% of cancer deaths (around 920 died in 2012).

Cervix cancer staging

Locally advanced cervical cancer – this usually includes stages 1B2 to 4A. Advanced-stage or metastatic cervical cancer – this usually means stage 4B. If the cancer comes back after initial treatment, this is known as recurrent cancer. Staging If your doctor determines that you have cervical cancer, you'll have further tests to determine the extent (stage) of your cancer. Your cancer's stage is a key factor in deciding on your treatment.
